General Area: Casa Grande, AZ Site Type/Program: FUDS Location: The former Williams Field Bomb Target Range #13 is located approximately 25 miles south of Casa Grande, Arizona in Pinal County. The site consisted of 638.20 acres and is located in Section 30, Township 10 South, Range 6 East. The site is desert land used for cattle grazing. Brief History: The site was acquired from the Department of the Interior by Public Land Order #22 dated 6 August 1942. The site was established as a practice bombing range in support of Williams Field in Higley, Arizona. Historical documents and evidence on the site indicate that M38A2 practice bombs were used. Planned improvements consisted of a road, a night target, a target marker, and fencing. Known improvements consisted of aiming circles and a target structure. The site was relinquished to the Department of the Interior on 18 November 1947. The target was marked with several aiming circles, the largest of which was 1000' diameter. There was a wood structure at the target center, most likely a wooden pyramid. There is wood debris at the target center and a relatively small amount of practice bomb debris within the aiming circles. It appears that someone tried to clean the area inside the circles as there are practice bomb debris widely scattered outside the aiming circles. The area inside the aiming circle is approximately 18 acres. |

Range / Site Description: Associated Munitions: WWII era practice bombs including M38 series bombs. Activities Completed: The Archives Search Report (ASR) for Williams Field Bomb Target Range #13 was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, in June 1998. Issues: The Huntsville Center Technical Advisory Group met and discussed this ASR on 27 October 1998 and concurs with the recommendation of EE/CA for the entire site as confirmed debris from M38-series practice bombs were encountered by the SI Team during their inspection of this FUDS.
