UXO Site selected: Pueblo Precision Bombing Range #1, CO

Site Type/Program: FUDS

Location: The former Pueblo PBR #1 is located approximately 30 miles southeast of Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado. The site consisted of 2,541.21 acres. The site is gently rolling grassland and is used for cattle grazing.

Brief History: The site was acquired in 1943 and was established as a pattern bombing range in support of the Pueblo Army Airfield. Improvements to the site included one set of aiming circles and wooden pyramids used to mark the target. Historical documents and interviews indicated that the site was used for practice bombing and gunnery training. The site inspection verified the use of practice bombs. Although no craters were found during the site inspection, there are HE bomb fragments scattered over the target area. The site was declared surplus by the Second Air Force on 9 November 1945.
