UXO Site selected: Manning Target, FL

General Area: Manning, FL

Site Type/Program: FUDS

Location: The former Manning Target is located near the community of Manning, Baker County, Florida in Sections 27 and 34, Township 3S, Range 21E. The site consists of approximately 640 acres.

Brief History: Manning Target was to have its lease canceled upon activation of Camp Blanding Targets 1 and 2 according to a document dated 1 June 1948. As of February 1950, Camp Blanding Targets were not activated because the Navy had not accomplished the required construction. Manning Target was not included in a listing of real estate controlled by NAS Jacksonville for 1952. This listing does show that Camp Blanding had a bomb target present. Based upon the real estate listing, it is assumed that the lease was terminated sometime in 1951 or 1952.
