General Area: Monterey, CA Site Type/Program: RCWM sites (Non-stockpile) Location: 9 miles north of Monterey Brief History: 1917 The land for the installation was purchased and was called the Fort Ord Complex, comprised of several camps. The installation was used as a maneuver area and field artillery range for the 11th Cavalry and the 76th Field Artillery. 1933 The reservation was designated Camp Ord. 1940 Camp Ord was re-designated Fort Ord and expanded by more than 20,000 acres. Prior to 1974 CAIS were used at Fort Ord for field training of troops at a site past the landfill area off of Imjin Road. 1974 Four CAIS in the inventory were removed from the installation and sent to Aberdeen Proving Ground-Edgewood Arsenal (APG-EA). They were subsequently sent to Rocky Mountain Arsenal (RMA) for destruction. |
Range / Site Description: 1997 Twenty-four glass ampoules found in two cans were recovered intact and identified as items from a K951 CAIS during the ordnance and explosive (OE) removal action by Army contractor personnel at Site 13B. Items were removed from the installation and sent to APG-EA. They were subsequently sent to RMA for destruction. Associated Munitions: CAIS (K951) confirmed.
