Brief History: Historic U.S. military Sea Disposal Site for Chemical Warfare Materiel (CWM) munitions sea disposal area located approximately 250 miles from North Carolina at depths greater than 1,500 feet. |
Range / Site Description: The following list is known to have been sea dumped at the site. Lewisite Bomb, unspecified type - Qty 462 - subtotal NACW 254 tons. Lewisite M70 115 lb Bombs - Qty 2,854 - subtotal NACW 1,570 tons. Lewisite M70 115 lb Bombs - Qty 928 - subtotal NACW 38 tons. Lewisite Ton Containers Cars - Qty 6 - subtotal NACW 60 tons. Lewisite Total 1,922 Mustard 155 mm Projectiles - Qty 968 - subtotal NACW 6 tons. Mustard 105 mm Projectiles - Qty 1,048 - subtotal NACW 2 tons. Mustard 75 mm Projectile Each 86 - subtotal NACW <1 ton. Mustard Total 8 tons. Conventional munitions including high explosive and white phosphorous filled munitions. Associated Munitions: CWM munitions and conventional munitions. Activities Completed: Archive search of records. DoD has only released minimal data on the site in the Annual Reports to Congress. Issues: Other Information: No cleanup or assessment planned. |
