Old Car Part Causes UXO Scare

Cressy, Australia workers in an area that once a WWII era Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base uncovered a strange round object with a lever attached to it. The workers, who were not UXO or EOD technicians, immediately stopped all work and evacuated the area thinking that the item in question was an old WWII era anti tank landmine.

The workers called the police who responded with support from a bomb disposal group. Reportedly, the item was eventually positively identified as an automatic clutch assembly from an old car. Authorities were however very pleased to see that the workers were very diligent in the way they handled the entire situation. With the area being a former WWII base with a former training range nearby, the potential for uncovering UXO is great and it's always better to be safe than sorry.
