Boy Finds Old Grenade, Father Transports It in SUV

Pace, Florida a group of young boys out treasure hunting with a metal detector in a field found more than just some old coins and construction debris. What the boys uncovered was a live WWII era hand grenade. The 8-year old who initially discovered the grenade decided to take it home with him. Several other boys followed him home.

Just as the boys were reportedly about to put the grenade in a bucket of water, the boy's father drove up. Alarmed over the grenade, the father took it from the boys and decided that it was best to drive it out of the neighborhood. The father then drove slowly out of the neighborhood holding the grenade outside the window of his SUV. After a short ride, the man reportedly decided that it would be much safer to just pull over, place the grenade on the ground, and call authorities.

The local police responded and called the Air Force EOD unit from nearby Hurlburt Field in for technical support. EOD responded and took possession of the grenade and safely disposed of it with incident or injury.
