Antique Railroad Explosives Found
Pownal, Vermont a local resident came across an antique railroad emergency kit that contained explosives. The explosives labeled "railroad torpedoes" were designed for railroad employees to use to signal an upcoming hazard. The emergency kits have not been in use since the 1970s. Each railroad torpedo is equivalent to a quarter stick of dynamite. The man discovered who discovered them called authorities who responded with technical support from the Vermont State Bomb Squad. In all, 24 railroad torpedoes were safely destroyed by the bomb squad.
