Public Comment Period For Surf City EE/CA Report

Philadelphia, PA The USACE issued a public announcement concerning an EE/CA report for the Discarded Military Munitions (DMM) site located in Surf City, New Jersey. The purpose of the announcement is to "solicit comments and recommendations on the subject report [EE/CA] from the State, County and Local governments, other stakeholders, and the public concerning the identification and analysis of the proposed future course-of-action alternatives and a recommendation for the selected alternative. The 30 Day public comment period will commence on April 14th 2008 and end on May 14th 2008."

It's unclear exactly what version of the EE/CA the USACE is seeking comments on. The website listed in the pubic announcement had a link to an EE/CA report dated 05 December 2007 that is listed as "Final". However, it is the only EE/CA report currently in the Administrative File for the site.

The Surf City, NJ site is the location where the USACE inadvertently pumped up thousands of DMM up onto the beach during a replenishment project last year. According to the Dec 07 "Final" EE/CA report, which can be downloaded using the link below, 1,114 DMM items have been recovered from the beach to date including live WWII era fuzes. The EE/CA outlines various options regarding future course-of-actions for the site.
