Fishing Trawler Brings UP WWII UXO
Port Seton, Scotland Tow fishermen on board a fishing trawler were shocked when they discovered an old WW II era munition caught up in one of their fish nets. The munition was described as a 4 foot long device with exposed wiring. Concerned about their safety, the men called the Coastguard for assistance. The Coastguard safely escorted the vessel out to sea and set up an exclusion zone to keep other vessels away.
An EOD team from Faslane Navy Base was called in to provide technical support. The EOD team removed the bomb from the fishing net and safely detonated the bomb at sea. No injuries were reported and the trawler was allowed to resume fishing following the 5 hour long ordeal. This is not the first time munitions have been brought up by fisherman in the area. Given the amount of fighting and bombing that occurred in the area during WWII, hundreds if not thousands of UXO are suspected to be scattered throughout the waters surrounding Port Seton.
