Congress Considering Report on Adequacy of MMRP

Washington, D.C. The current version of the Duncan Hunter National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009 (Reported in House H.R. 5658) has an interesting new requirement related to the Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP). Section 345 of HR 5658 "Comptroller General Report of Adequacy of Funding, Staffing, and Organization of the DoD MMRP" states:

"(a) Report Required- Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General shall submit to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House of Representatives a report on the adequacy of the funding, staffing, and organization of the Military Munitions Response Program of the Department of Defense.

(b) Elements- The report required by subsection (a) shall include (1) an analysis of the funding, staffing, and organization of the Military Munitions Response Program; and (2) an assessment of the Program mechanisms for the accountability, reporting, and monitoring of the progress of munitions response projects and methods to reduce the length of time of such projects."

UXOInfo.com will continue to track the FY09 Defense Authorization Act as it makes it way through Congress to see if this reporting requirement makes it into law.
