Landmine Found in Mall Dumpster

Madison Township, Ohio A maintenance worker at the Heatherwood strip mall found an unusual item in one of the mall's dumpster, a landmine. The maintenance worker called the police who responded to the call. The Sheriff Deputy initially responding to the call evacuated the area and called the Ashland County Bomb Squad for technical support.

The Bomb Squad responded to provide technical support. The Bomb Squad called in the military EOD unit from Wright Patterson AFB after confirming that the item was indeed of military origin. The EOD unit responded and identified the munition as an inert WWII era German anti-tank landmine.

The EOD unit took possession of the item and transported it back to Wright-Patterson AFB. Authorities are unclear how the item ended up in the mall dumpster in the first place.
