UXO and Blowtorches Not a Winning Combination

Manila, Philippines A construction worker working on the foundation of a bridge uncovered several WWII era shells during excavation activities. In an apparent attempt to dismantle the munitions for recycling purposes, he and a known metal scavenger attempted to cut the munitions open with a blowtorch. Unfortunately for the two men, the munitions were live and an unwanted detonation occurred during the process. One of the two died instantly while the other remains in critical condition at the hospital.
