WWII Era UXO Found During Renovation Project

Warrington, United Kingdom construction workers renovating an old school house uncovered a munition. The workers called the police who responded with technical support provided by a local bomb disposal team. The UXO was identified as a WWII era artillery shell. The bomb disposal team determined that the UXO was not safe to move therefore, an in-place controlled detonation was selected as the means to eliminate the explosive safety risk. Police evacuated the areas surrounding the school for two hours so that the controlled detonation could be safely carried out. No injuries or property damage was reported and the area was re-opened shortly afterward.
