Position Summary:

  • Seeking a research scientist to join our growing R&D team in geophysical sensing and signal processing for a full service airborne remote sensing and ground-based characterization company focused on environmental remediation projects including the assessment and characterization of formerly used military sites and the detection of unexploded ordnance (UXO).
  • The candidate will be responsible for supporting or leading research and development of the next generation of sensor-related technology for remote characterization of environmental, military, and civil infrastructure applications.
  • Candidate should have a strong understanding of electromagnetic/electro-mechanical/optical detectors and detection processes and specialized experience in directing and managing scientific research projects.
  • Work includes new initiatives in explosive device detection, physical security, and GWOT sensing applications including sensor system architecture analysis, signal processing, data analysis, and algorithm development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development of sensor systems and sensing techniques for detection and discrimination explosive devices and physical system characterization
  • Provide test and evaluation support for research and systems projects involving improved sensing methodologies, handheld and/or vehicle-based sensor processing approaches to enhance system functionality through simulation, analysis, and experimentation
  • Support or lead proposal and marketing material preparation

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Masters or PhD in Physics, Geophysics, Electrical/Mechanical/or Civil Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Experience with laboratory and field geophysical instrumentation
  • Experience with military sensing applications for DoD and DoE agencies
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
  • Strong background in computational methods to include data processing, visualization, and modeling of electrical, electromagnetic, or optical signals in the ocean, earth, or atmosphere
  • A demonstrated aptitude to quickly learn new technologies required
  • Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, perseverance, and a positive attitude required
  • Excellent oral and written communication, publication, and client interfacing skills required
