Marine EOD Technician Killed In Combat Operations

Helmand Province, Afghanistan Staff Sgt. Justin Schmalstieg, 28, of Pittsburgh, was killed 'while conducting combat operations'. Schmalstieg was assigned to the 1st EOD Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton. Schmalstieg was on his second deployment to Iraq and was a nine year veteran of the Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife, mother and a younger brother. The military has not released any details on the incident that claimed the life of the brave Marine.
