Large Cache of WWII Era Munitions Uncovered

Moscow, Russia Maintenance workers replacing a portion of the underground piping of a residential apartment building uncovered a large cache of military munitions. Explosives experts were called in to respond to the to the find. The munitions were identified as WWII era Russian munitions. 916 munition items were recovered in all. The majority of the munitions were 76-mm projectiles but there were also 122mm and 152mm projectiles recovered from the area. All of the munitions were found in a single large burial pit.

Authorities suspect that the munitions were headed to the battlefield during the defense of Moscow in 1941 but were abandoned during an air raid. Local residents were evacuated during the removal process. The munitions were safely removed for off-site disposal.

Rain's Gravatar It is a nice news. Can you imagine what could happen if it exploaded? Well, it is ok when such things are found in the places of recent active places, for example this: http://www.videorolls.com/watch/Cougar-Soldiers-an... but not in Moskow, where over half a century passed.
