Missile Motor Ignites During Disassembly Operation

Indian Head, Maryland Two civilian workers at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) were injured when the rocket motor on an AIM-9 Sidewinder missile ignited while being dismantled. The missile reportedly did not have a warhead attached. One worker received second and third degree burns while the other worker only received minor injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
