UXO in Car Causes Military Gate Closure

Leavenworth, Kansas a vehicle carrying a live mortar fuze caused the temporary closure of the front gate at Fort Leavenworth. The unidentified occupants reportedly drove the mortar fuze to the gate in an effort to get the military to dispose of the item. It's unclear where the occupants of the vehicle obtained the fuze but authorities do not suspect that there was any malicious intent involved in their actions.

Local law enforcement and emergency response personnel responded to the incident. The mortar fuze was safely moved and properly disposed of without incident. The gate re-opened after the all-clear was signaled. Military officials from the installation issued a reminder to the public to call 911 if they have any munitions that require disposal.
