Grenades Used As Bookends Turn Out To Be Live

DeLand, Florida A widow clearing out some belongings of her late husband decided she no longer needed the two hand grenades her late WWII veteran husband had used for bookends. So she decided to give the grenades away to a neighbor. The neighbor reportedly pulled the pin out from one of the grenades and then quickly re-inserted it after getting nervous that the grenade may be live. The neighbor then called the police who responded with a local bomb squad.

The bomb squad investigated and determined that the grenades were indeed live. The grenades were safely transported by the bomb squad to an open area where they were safely counter charged. A representative from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office responding to questions on the incident stated - "This could have been very dangerous; somebody could have lost a life".
