EOD Responds To Cannonball Found At Historic Park

Eagle, Alaska A local resident found an old cannon ball on their property and called Authorities to report the find. Alaska State Troopers and the National Park Service responded. Concerned that the cannonball may be live, the EOD unit from Eielson Air Force Base 350-miles away was called for support.

EOD responded and examined the 12-pound cannonball. EOD safely moved the it to safe place for further testing and analysis. During the remote analysis, the cannonball exploded with no injuries or property damage reported.

Authorities suspect that the 12-pound cannonball originated from Fort Egbert, a historic Army outpost that was decommissioned in the 1920s. The fort is managed by the BLM as part of the Eagle Historic District National Historic Landmark.
