Landmine Recovered from Army Installation

Fort Meade, Maryland A WWII era landmine was recovered during a remediation project at the Manor View dump site. UXO support was on-site but since it was a landmine, the EOD unit from Aberdeen Proving Grounds was called to respond. EOD identified the landmine (shown below) as a WWII era anti-personnel landmine.

Fort Meade Landmine

From a review of the Technical Manuals, it appears that the landmine is a M2 fragmentation mine. The main section of the mine a cylindrical tube, which houses a 60mm mortar nose down, with the mouth of the tube covered by a steel cap (missing from the found landmine).

The final disposition plans for the landmine are pending review by the Garrison Commander.
