Is That A Potato Spud or A Dud
Quincy, Washington A worker at the ConAgra food processing plant made an startling discovery, a military munition in a bin of potatoes. The worker alerted management who in turn called the police to report the find. Police responded with technical support provided by the Richland Police Department bomb squad.
The bomb squad identified the item as an early marker bomb with a live spotting charge (exact nomenclature not reported). The plant and nearby buildings were evacuated as the bomb disposal squad safely relocated the munition for disposal by open detonation in a nearby field. The bomb, reported as under 1 foot long, had been picked up by a harvesting machine in east Washington state before being transferred by truck to the facility.
