Section of Coastline Closed for UXO Response

La Bette Bay, Guernsey A stretch of coastline adjacent to Jaonnet Bay was closed after UXO was found. The responding bomb disposal team reported that the item was fuzed and as such it was detonated in place. The UXO was reported as a "300-lbs roll bomb".

Editorial note - A review of historic ordnance publications did not yield any references to "roll bombs" but it is believed that term refers to the fact that during WWII bombs were suspended from the cliffs along the island's south coast by the German occupying forces during World War Two that were designed to be cut free against any opposing forces attempting to land at the base of the cliffs.
