CS Grenade Discovered in Oklahoma Lake
Lake Murray, Oklahoma A scuba diver found an unexpected artifact while exploring a lake in south-central Oklahoma lake, a live CS gas grenade. The man was diving in Marietta Landing area of 5,700-acre Lake Murray when he discovered what appeared to be "some type of bomb," the Love County Sheriff's Office reported in a social media post.
Sheriff Andy Cumberledge said in the post, "Deputies and an officer with Lighthorse Police Department arrived on scene and were able to confirm the device found was a live CS gas grenade." The Oklahoma Highway Patrol's bomb squad also confirmed the grenade was indeed live.
According to the bomb squad, the gray can labeled "M7A3 Riot CS," was from the early 2000s. "Their team collected the grenade and will detonate and destroy it off-site at a later date," Cumberledge said.
The Love County Sheriff's Office praised the diver for reporting the discovery of the hand grenade. Cumberledge said, "This is a great example of a citizen locating something they knew to be dangerous and contacting (authorities) so that it could be disposed of properly."
