Concerns Mount over UXO Contamination in French Lake
GĂ©rardmer Lake, France GĂ©rardmer Lake, located in the Vosges mountains of eastern France, contains significant amounts of UXO from both World Wars and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Water samples from the lake reveal elevated levels of TNT and heavy metals like iron, titanium, and lead. While the lake is a popular destination for swimming, it also serves as a source of drinking water source for the local community.
The local mayor is reportedly investigating ways to map the ordnance at the bottom of the lake, contingent upon funding from the national government.
