EOD Remove Grenade from British Houseboat

Derbyshire, England Police and British Army EOD responded to Derbyshire after a military grenade was found on a 'narrowboat.' A 100-meter cordon was established as technicians worked to determine the ordnance was inert.

A police spokesman said, "Thank you to all members of the public who spoke to our officers on the cordon for their understanding, and we apologize for any disturbance caused. It is common for families of war veterans to find these unexpected souvenirs, a lot of service members either bought them home from the war or purchased them later. However, devices like the one can remain intact for decades and explode without notice."

Narrowboats are canal boats, built to fit narrow waterways in the United Kingdom. Once used for transport during the Industrial Revolution, over 8,000 narrowboats are now registered as permanent homes on Britain's waterway system. They are often used as an alternative to community living, much like houseboats in the U.S.
