Kids Mistake Bomb for Scuba Tank on Florida Beach

Englewood, Florida The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office responded to a beach in Englewood after children discovered a barnacle-encrusted object they believed to be a scuba tank. Much to their surprise, the item turned out to be WWII-era UXO.

The children reportedly touched the ordnance and took photos of it before someone realized it could be dangerous. "I was shivering when I heard it was a bomb," said Maci Martinez, one of the children who found it.

The Sheriff's Office arrived and evacuated the area. A 100-ft cordon was established around the device until the Sarasota Bomb Squad and MacDill Air Force Base's EOD team arrived to remove the device, which was determined to be inert.
