Finders Not Keepers When UXO is Involved

Ocean Pines, Maryland

Bomb squad units and the United States Air Force EOD team from Dover Air Force Base responded and identified the munitions as M29A1 Practice Rockets.

Both ordnance were removed for proper disposal by Air Force personnel. Assateague Island was historically used as a military bombing and training range during WWII.

Investigators warned that more UXO may still be buried on the beaches. If a suspicious device is found, they are reminded to never touch, move, or transport it. Instead, they should leave the area immediately and call 911.
