Space Force EOD Remove UXO Near Cocoa Beach School

Brevard County, Florida The Brevard County Sheriff's office was called to a county school after reports of a suspected explosive device. Construction crews uncovered the device after breaking ground near the school, eventually leading to an EOD response by Space Launch Delta 45, a U.S. Space Force unit from Patrick Space Force Base.

Sheriff's department officials identified the device as military ordnance, prompting EOD to transport the item, a WWII-era, American-made practice bomb, to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station for disposal.

According to a press release, the ordnance did not contain high explosives, but was equipped with a smoke charge to mark the location of impact during air training exercises.
