Routine Burglary Response Turns Explosive
Rugby, England Police made an unexpected discovery when they responded to the scene of a reported burglary in Rugby. The Rugby Police's Rural Central and South team found three live WWII shells, prompting a bomb disposal team response.
A police spokesperson said, "Leaving them in situ wasn't an option, so we immediately contacted the Ministry of Defence. Although they were coming from another county, they arrived promptly, safely removed the shells, and disposed of them."
"We initially attended a reported burglary, gathering all relevant information and expecting it to be a fairly quick enquiry. However, our curiosity led to taking a wider look around the area, and we're glad I did."
The disposal operation was carried out without injury. There was no additional information about where the munitions come from or how long they had been at the site.
