Live Mortar Dug Up in Sacramento Yard
Sacramento, California The Sacramento County Sheriff's bomb squad was called to a home in Sacramento County after the homeowner's son uncovered a suspected explosive device while digging in the yard.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, North Patrol deputies responded and nearby residents were evacuated while the technicians examined the munition which was determined to be a live 81mm mortar. A U.S. Air Force team also responded to assist as the UXO was safely removed and destroyed.
There was no report as to the origin of the device or how long it had potentially been in the yard. The Sheriff's Office thanked the public for their cooperation during the evacuation and reminded residents to avoid handling any suspicious items.
