Live UXO Discovered in Nantucket Sand Dune

Nantucket, Massachusetts Several WWII-era rockets were discovered on a popular Nantucket beach, resulting in a multi-agency response. According to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called out to reports of UXO found buried in an eroding sand dune.

The U.S. Navy's EOD Mobile Unit and the Nantucket Fire Department were dispatched to clear "several" WWII-era training rockets which still contained explosive material.

Due to the public threat, technicians conducted a controlled detonation of the munitions before turning the area back over to local authorities.
