Military Ordnance Prompts EOD Response at Boat Ramp
Saint Leonard, Maryland Suspected military ordnance that washed up on a Maryland shore prompted a multi-agency response. The canister, marked with a military label, was discovered near a Calvert Beach boat ramp
The potential explosive find led to police, firefighters and a Navy EOD team being called to the scene after the U.S. Coast Guard requested that Naval Air Station Patuxent EOD examine and dispose of the object.
Fire department personnel and police secured the area while the team safely executed a controlled detonation.
Reports on the incident described the object as a small gray metal canister with the words "U.S. Military" and "phosphorus" were found on washed on a beach near a public boat ramp. There was no information on how long the ordnance may have been in the water.
