Police Chief Thankful after Safe Disposal of Live Artillery Round

Maynard, Massachusetts The Maynard Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a Maynard home after reports of a suspected UXO. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad arrived as well to confirm that the large, rusted artillery shell was live.

Bomb squad technicians transported the munition to a secluded area for safe detonation.

Police Chief Christopher Troiano expressed his appreciation in the following statement, "I want to thank residents who may have been alarmed by the loud bang when this ordnance was safely disposed of. It was important that we keep people away from the detonation area, so we did not want to announce this activity in advance."

Chief Angela Lawless said, "I want to thank the police, firefighters and Bomb Squad technicians who worked seamlessly together to ensure this incident was handled safely. I also want to thank the residents who did the right thing by promptly reporting this discovery and letting us safely handle it."
