This bomb is a converted seacoast artillery shell from which the rotating band may have been removed. The case is single-piece steel forging, with a wall thickness of 2.3-inches. Two eyebolts, Ushaped, are welded to plates which are then welded or riveted to suspension bands. The bands are secures to the case by tightening bolts on under side of bomb. Prior to March 1942 these bombs would have been painted yellow with black manufacturers markings, but since that date they will be painted olive drab with a 1-inch yellow band around the nose and extreme rear of the bomb and a ¼ inch band around the center of gravity.
