Description:
The bomb body consists of a pot-shaped, cast-steel cylinder which is open at the top. A steel neck ring, having internal threads to receive the adapter, is welded to the open end of the body. The parachute tray secured to the adapter. Extending through the adapter is the fuze, which is enclosed by a paper tube 2-in. in diameter, extending through the bomb body.
Use:
There are only two sizes of fragmentation bombs now in use by the British. These are the 8-lb and several different marks of 20-lb. fragmentation bombs, including a modified U.S. 20-lb. fragmentation bomb.
Functioning:
The parachute is 12 in. in diameter and is enclosed in a cylindrical steel tray having a diameter slightly less than the maximum diameter of the bomb body. A safety pin extends through the parachute container, and is secured by a spring clip.
