The FUDS portions consist of 15 parcels totaling approximately 388 acres, which are scattered between the two halves of Fort McClellan.

Brief History: Fort McClellan has been in existence since 1915 when it consisted of approximately 1,160 acres. At its peak, it consisted of approximately 45,907 acres. At the present time, Fort McClellan consists of two nearly equal size areas on opposite sides of Anniston. Pelham Range is the western half and the main post is the eastern half. There is a neck of land (known as the corridor) on the eastern end of the eastern half of the fort that connects the main post to Talladega National Forest.

Range / Site Description: Fort McClellan has used the national forest for training under a series of special use permits. In addition to the areas used by the DOD in the national forest, fifteen parcels totaling approximately 388 acres have been excessed. These fifteen parcels are at scattered locations between the two halves of the fort. Fort McClellan is the home of the Chemical School and the Military Police School. Historical data indicates CWM and conventional ordnance have been and continue to be used extensively at the fort. The interview process revealed OE presence in Parcel A (Lagarde Park) and in the Talladega National Forest. The FUDS currently have varied uses ranging from residential to commercial to public recreation to forest management. Aside from the areas used in the national forest, all of the FUDS are located within the city of Anniston.

Associated Munitions:

Activities Completed: The Archives Search Report (ASR) for Fort McClellan was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, in July 1994.

Issues: The Huntsville Center Technical Advisory Group (TAG) reviewed this ASR on 21 May 1998 and determined an EE/CA should be performed in Parcel A as a portion of this parcel was a mock Vietnam village and many OE items were discovered here by the SI team. (Items found were subsequently retrieved by the 142 EOD at Fort McClellan.) The TAG determined NOFA for Areas B through O due to being highly developed and there have been no reports of OE in these areas. These areas were not actively utilized by the DOD, due to the outlying characteristics of these parcels along the boundaries of the military installation.
