General Area: Douglas, AZ Site Type/Program: FUDS Location: The former Douglas Army Airfield (AAF) is located approximately 6 miles north of Douglas, AZ in Cochise County. The site consisted of 2,804.85 acres. The site is currently owned by Cochise County and is operated as the Bisbee-Douglas International Airport. There is also an Arizona State Prison on the site. The area is all flat desert land. Brief History: The site was acquired between 1942 and 1945 and was used as a twin engine advanced flying school for bomber pilots. Improvements included 418 buildings, 6 runways, 16 taxiways, a parking apron, 7 hangers, a sewage treatment facility, associated utilities, an ordnance storage area, 2 pistol ranges and a skeet range. |
Range / Site Description: Associated Munitions: Activities Completed: The Archives Search Report (ASR) for the Douglas AAF was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, in June 1996. Issues: The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) determined that a RAC 5 is the proper score for this site. The TAG recommended no further action be performed at this site. Other Information: NOFA |
