Brief History: The site was acquired in 1942 and was established as a pattern bombing range in support of Davis-Monthan Field. Crews from March Field, CA and Carswell AFB, TX also conducted bombing missions on Sahuarita AFR. Improvements consisted of 12 buildings, observation towers, a 5,400' runway, miscellaneous structures, utilities, an OQ range, four bomb targets, and air to ground targets. The site was disposed of by several transactions during the period 1948 through 1978.

Range / Site Description:

Associated Munitions: Types of ordnance relative to training activities on this site include .50 caliber and 20mm projectiles, 100 lb. M38-series Practice Bombs and 100 lb. M30 General Purpose HE Bombs.

Activities Completed: The Archives Search Report (ASR) for Sahuarita Air Force Range was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, in September 1996.

Issues: The Huntsville Center technical Advisory Group reviewed this ASR again and has determined that an EE/CA will be performed on the entire site since confirmed residue from various types of munitions were encountered by the SI Team during their inspection of this FUDS. A Risk Assessment Code form for the overall site it attached reflecting a score of 2.
