General Area: Florence Junction, AZ Site Type/Program: FUDS Location: The former Williams Field Bomb Target Range #3 is located approximately 5 miles southeast of Florence Junction, Arizona in Pinal County. The site consisted of 640 acres and is located in the SE¼ of Section 13, the SW¼ of Section 24, the NE¼ of Section 35, and the NW¼ of Section 36, all in Township 2 South, Range 10 East. Brief History: The site was established as a practice bombing range in support of Williams Field in Higley, Arizona. Historical documents and evidence on the site indicate that M38A2 practice bombs were used. Planned improvements consisted of a road, a night target, a target marker, and fencing. Known improvements consisted of aiming circles and a target structure. The target was marked with several aiming circles, the largest of which was 1000' diameter. There was a wood structure at the target center, most likely a wooden pyramid and a large amount of practice bomb debris within the aiming circles. There is practice bomb debris widely scattered outside the aiming circles. The area inside the aiming circle is 18 acres. |

Range / Site Description: Associated Munitions: M38A2 practice bombs. Activities Completed: The Archives Search Report (ASR) for Williams Field Bomb Target Range #3 was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, in June 1998. Issues: The Huntsville Center Technical Advisory Group met and discussed this ASR on 12 January 1999 and determined EE/CA for the entire site as confirmed debris from M38-series practice bombs were encountered by the SI Team during their inspection of this FUDS.
