Location: Fort Lauderdale, Bomb Target Site No. 3 is located five miles southeast of Andytown and fourteen miles southwest of Fort Lauderdale, in Broward County, Florida. Access to the site is gained by exiting Interstate 75 and heading west on Griffin Road, a major artery in the county. The southern portion of the site, south of Griffin Road has been built into a residential area. North of Griffin road preparation for building a residential area has nearly voided the soil survey for the area.

Brief History: Originally considered waste land, the Fort Lauderdale Bomb Target Site No. 3 was obtained by lease from the Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida for no cost. The range was active from approximately 1942 until 1948. It was used by the Naval Air Advanced Training Command for initial pilot training. Aerial photographs showed no target circles or structures were built on the land. Typically the Navy used either one large circular target or, more probably on this range, several small wooded triangular targets. On expiration of the lease the State of Florida sold the land to private individuals. The southern quarter of the section has been developed into an urban residential area.
