General Area: , GA Site Type/Program: RCWM sites (Non-stockpile) Location: Columbus, Muscogee, Chattahoochee and Russell Counties Brief History: 1918 Fort Benning was established to train (including chemical warfare training using CWM) infantry troops of the U.S. Army. 1945 Suspected toxic chemical agents (GA, GB, or GD) were buried in a wooded section of Harmony Church area. 1990 During excavation, broken CAIS vials were uncovered resulting in the temporary hospitalization of three workers. An RFI initiated in 1990 indicated the possibility of 96 buried CAIS containing GA, GB, or GD." |
