Brief History: Historic U.S. Sea Disposal Area for Chemical Warfare Materiel (CWM) munitions and Chemical Warfare Agent (CWA). Located approximately 120 miles from New York at depths greater than 1,500 feet. Complete site history unknown. |
Range / Site Description: The following list is known to have been sea dumped at the site. Mustard in Ton Containers (4,577 total) for a total or 4,119 tons NCAW of mustard agent. Sarin (GB) in M55 Rockets (in Concrete Vaults) 29,280 of them for a total of 157 tons NCAW of GB. Sarin (GB) in Ton Container 19 of them for a total of 15 tons NCAW of GB. VX in M55 Rockets (in Concrete Vaults) 21,900 of them for a total of 110 tons NCAW of VX. VX in Ton Containers - 19 o them for a total of 14 tons NCAW of VX. Arsenic in 50 and 30 Gallon Drums or Canister 60 of them for a total of 16 tons NCAW of Arsenic. Cyanide in 50 and 30 Gallon Drums or Canisters 60 of then for a total or 5 tons NCAW of Cyanide. Others known items sea dumped include explosives and Methyl Bromide. Associated Munitions: CWM munitions, chemical warfare agent - cylinders, drums and ton containers. Activities Completed: Archive search of records. DoD has only released minimal data on the site in the Annual Reports to Congress. Issues: Sea disposal area. Other Information: No cleanup or assessment planned. |
