Location: The former Goshen Point AMTB is located on an 17.0 acre parcel of land in the Harkness Memorial State Park, Waterford, Connecticut.

Brief History: The property was leased by the War Department beginning in 1943. From 1943 until the summer of 1945 it served as a firing point for coastal artillery battery. The site was declared excess in the summer of 1945. The War Department terminated the lease on 9 July 1945.

Range / Site Description: The climate has four distinct seasons influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The predominate vegetation is grass. The majority of the shoreline is rocky. There are; however, some small sand beaches adjacent to the battery location. The off shore ordnance area is located in the Long Island Sound, with water depths that exceed 25 feet. The total acreage for the off shore ordnance area is approximately 20,385 acres. The total acreage for the whole site is 20,402 acres.

Activities Completed: The Archives Search Report for the former Goshen Point AMTB Battery was completed December 1994 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District.

Issues: It is therefore recommended that this site have no further action performed on it. The NOFA letter should state that if any dredging operations occur in this area or net fishing along the bottom occurs the operators should be warned of the OE potential.
