Marine Corps Recruiting Depot (MCRD) Parris Island encompasses 6,710 acres of the South Carolina low country. Improved lands make up 1,645 acres of the Recruit Depot, while 5,065 acres of land are unimproved. MCRD Parris Island is home of the Eastern Recruiting Region and Recruit Training for all male Marines east of the Mississippi River and for all female Marines nation-wide. The Recruit Training Regiment is made up of four recruit training battalions and one support battalion. The regiment, along with Weapons and Field Training Battalion, are made up of drill instructors and other Marines who are responsible for training recruits.

MCRD Parris Island maintains operational ranges including small arms firing ranges as part of the training activities conducted at the installation. The three distinct operational range areas at MCRD are 1) Elliott’s Beach Training Are, 2) Page Field Training Are, and 3) Weapons and field Training Battalion Area Range Complex. There are eight small arms firing ranges within the Weapons and Field Training Battalion Area Range Complex including:
