Old Torpedo Found Lodged in Ferry Pier

Ayrshire, United Kingdom Divers working on the Largs Promenade Ferry Pier discovered an unexploded torpedo buried within the underwater structure of the pier. The workers called the Royal Navy to report their unusual and potentially dangerous find. The Royal Navy dispatched an EOD team from Faslane Naval Base to respond and provide technical support. The pier was closed and a 100-meter safe area was established during the 4-hour incident.

The EOD team safely removed the torpedo from the underwater structure and transported the UXO for off-site disposal. No injuries were reported but some ferry passengers were stranded for several hours due the cancellation of ferry service during the response. The exact type of Torpedo was not reported.

Dean Barnitt's Gravatar I was one of the EOD Operators that responded to this task. The device was a Mk11 depth charge and not a torpedo as reported. It was moved to a safe location on a remote beach and desroyed.
