Marine Flare Found on Beach

Kaua'i, Hawaii A resident walking along 'Aliomanu Beach came across a cylindrical item that contained hazardous warning labels on it. The resident called the police who responded and secured the area. The police called in the Army's 706th EOD unit from Schofield Barracks for technical support. EOD sent a team to investigate the find.

Mk 58 Flare

EOD identified the item as a MK 58 Marine Marker used by the military to support air and sea rescue operations. EOD safely disposed of the live flare without incident. The response was the 2nd in less than three weeks for the 706th for ordnance found on a Kaua'i beach.
