Removal Action Underway For Improperly Stored Explosives

Doyline, Louisiana The State Fire Marshalls Office and ATF investigators are overseeing the removal of explosives from a property leased by Explo Systems, the site where an above-ground storage magazine exploded in October. The removal action includes over 1 million pounds of powder that were found to be improperly stored during a recent safety inspection.

Reportedly, the safety inspection found that the powder was being stored outside in cardboard boxes on wooden pallets instead of inside an ATF approved magazine. Nearby residents and business have been evacuated and the local school closed as State police and Explo employees carry out the task of relocating the explosives. The powder is reportedly being moved to storage bunkers at the Camp Minden industrial site.

This is not the first time Explo Systems has experienced issues, in 2006, an explosion occurred that resulted in the evacuation of residents and businesses. A law suit from residents is still pending in the courts that is claiming damages from allegations of lowered property values because of the actions by the company. More rough times may be ahead for the company as local lawmaker State Representative Gene Reynolds told residents already that he may seek legislative changes to force Explo Systems to close or relocate.
