Marine Flare Washes Ashore

Sodus Point, New York a local resident found a marine flare that had washed ashore near the Old Sodus Bay Lighthouse. The flare had a warning label stenciled on the body advising anyone that found the item to contact military and police officials. The resident phoned the police who responded with technical support provided by the Fort Drum EOD team.

The marine flare (type not reported) measured 3 inches in diameter and 18 inches long was reportedly expended. EOD safely removed the expended flare from the area for proper disposal. Sodus Point is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. It is unknown at this time where the marine flare originated from and when it was deployed.
